Sip happens! – Issue No. 12

This month's tasting took place at Fabio's place, where he made a bold choice: two French wines, one evening. 🇫🇷🍷

Naturally, this leaves us with one important question: Has Fabio finally got Daniele in his pocket? 😉

We also welcomed Davide, our youngest guest so far and proud representative of the legendary SixSeven Generation. His mission was simple: enjoy good wine and remind the rest of us that we're no longer the youngest people in the room. 😂

The wines brought elegance, character, and plenty of discussion, making for another great Sip happens! evening.

🎥 We also recorded the tasting, and the new YouTube video is now live!

👉 Lueged s'Video, lönd es Like da und folged eus uf YouTube. Merci vielmal für jede Support! ❤️

Because great wine is always better when shared with friends, laughter, and at least one member of the Six Seven Generation keeping us updated on what's trending.

Cheers! 🍷

Étienne Oudart Cuvée Juliana 2015

Founded by Étienne Oudart, the family Champagne house is based in Brugny, in the heart of the Champagne region. Today, the estate remains a small, family-run producer, focusing on expressive Champagnes that reflect the character of its vineyards and vintages.

The Cuvée Juliana Millésimée 2015 is a vintage Champagne named after Juliana, the wife of Étienne Oudart, who played an important role in the early development of the family business. Made from 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, this 2015 vintage has developed additional complexity through extended ageing, balancing ripe fruit with freshness and a creamy texture.

In the Glass:
The Cuvée Juliana 2015 displays a golden colour with a fine and persistent mousse.

On the nose and palate, you'll find:

  • Ripe pear and stone fruit

  • Citrus and mature fruit aromas

  • Brioche and pastry notes

  • Creamy texture with fine bubbles

  • Elegant acidity and a long, gastronomic finish

Our Tasting:
This Champagne immediately brings you into a bakery, with inviting aromas of freshly baked pastry and roasted almonds or cashews. On the palate, it combines a subtle salty and mineral character with a creamy maturity and a still-present, though softer, perlage. Elegant and complex, it feels like a Champagne that has gained depth and personality through time.🍾

Grapes: Chardonnay 40%, Pinot Noir 40%, Meunier 20%
Region: Champagne AOC, Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, Champagne
Vinification: Traditional Champagne production from selected exceptional terroirs; vintage expression with extended ageing.
Aging: Extended ageing on the lees in bottle, developing its mature pastry and nutty character.
Alcohol: 12%
Price: ~CHF 60–65 / €60

Château Lafitte Héritage 2018

Founded in 1763, Château Lafitte is a historic family estate located in Camblanes-et-Meynac, just southeast of Bordeaux. Despite the name, it should not be confused with the famous Château Lafite Rothschild of Pauillac. The estate focuses on wines from the Côtes de Bordeaux AOC, combining traditional Bordeaux varieties with careful oak ageing.

The Château Lafitte Héritage 2018 is one of the estate’s special cuvées, created as a tribute to its long history. Made from 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is aged for around 16–18 months in Bordeaux oak barrels, giving it additional structure, depth and complexity. The 2018 vintage was a warm and powerful year in Bordeaux, producing ripe, concentrated wines.

In the Glass:
The Château Lafitte Héritage 2018 shows a deep ruby-red colour with pronounced depth.

On the nose and palate, you'll find:

  • Blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry

  • Ripe plum and dark fruit

  • Vanilla and toasted oak

  • Tobacco and warm spices

  • Firm but rounded tannins with a long finish

Our Tasting:
Powerful and intensely aromatic, the wine balances sweet vanilla notes with a generous mix of warm spices. Round and commanding on the palate, it reveals dry fruit flavours, a long, almost liqueur-like finish and a slightly sandy tannic texture that leaves the mouth gently contracting. It feels like a winter evening by the fireplace with a good book — warm, rich and comforting.🍷

Here, Daniele got cooked 😅 He bet on an Italian Brunello di Montalcino — maybe this French wine will become his new favourite in the future. 🇫🇷🍷
